Midwest Utility Sales LLC was formed as a Manufacturer’s Rep Agency by Bob and Sharon Slaughter as a woman owned minority business in early 2010. The agency covers the electric utility industry in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky. Together they have over 60 years of service to the Investor Owned Utilities, Rural Electric Co-op’s, Municipal Electric Utilities and Electrical Utility Distributors.
In 2011 Midwest Utility Sales purchased C.D. Arnold Co., Inc. in Noblesville Indiana. C.D. Arnold is a manufacturers representative started by Cal Arnold in 1955 and the combined agency is one of the premier manufacturers rep agencies in the Midwest representing some of the finest and most respected manufacturers in the Electrical Utility Industry.
After college, Bob started his career with Dynalectric Supply Co. in Bowling Green Kentucky, in 1972, working in the office and as inside sales. He then accepted a transfer to Lebanon Indiana as Branch Manager with total responsibility for day-to-day operations of the branch including outside sales staff. After 13 years with Dynalectric, he left to join Westinghouse Electric Supply Co. (Wesco) in Muncie Indiana as an account manager for Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. In 2000, he joined C.D. Arnold Co. in Noblesville Indiana as Vice President with account responsibility in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. They were a well established manufacturers rep agency with many long term relationships with their manufacturers. After 3½ years, he again joined Wesco as an account manager for Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky. In early 2005, he left to join Rauckman High Voltage Sales with responsibility for sales in Indiana and Ohio. Early in 2010, Bob and Sharon started Midwest Utility Sales LLC.
Sharon began her career with Indiana University as a secretary. She then accepted a position with Hoosier Energy as a secretary to the Engineering Manager where she was introduced to the Electric Utility Industry. She then began her career with Westinghouse Corporation (now ABB) where she worked her way up as executive assistant to the purchasing, materials and quality assurance, and sales management, and then becoming executive administrative assistant for product line plant managers of the capacitor and recloser/breaker divisions. After the ABB plant closure in Bloomington she accepted a transfer to the Paint Finishing Systems Division of ABB in Indianapolis Indiana where she was administrative supervisor, Customer Complaint Coordinator, and executive secretary to the VP and General Manager. After taking early retirement from ABB, she went back to school and obtained her nursing degree and continues to hold her nurses license.
After serving in the Navy during WWII, Cal received his Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University in 1950. He then worked in the plant engineering department at Western Electric in Indianapolis before going to work for Col. C.E. Chatfield, a manufacturers representative. In 1955 Cal started C.D. Arnold Co., Inc. (with just three lines) snd was active in the business until 2005. Cal passed away in 2016.
Mel Arnold, received a BS in Business Administration from Marian College in Indianapolis (1976) and studied Electrical Engineering Technology at IUPUI. Mel started full time with the company in May of 1976 calling on the REA/Municipal accounts. Today his responsibilities are the Investor Owned Utilities of Duke Energy, IPL and Vectren. He also has the account responsibility of WESCO Utility.
Jeff came to Midwest Utility Sales LLC / C.D. Arnold Co., Inc. after 21 years with E&C Supply/Reed City Power Line Supply. The last 12 years as the inside salesman for northern Indiana. Jeff handles the REA/Municipal accounts for C.D. Arnold Co. Inc., the utility distributors, as well as helping in the transition of I&M Division of AEP.
Ed is a graduate of Western Illinois University. He met his wife Lyn at church while she was a foreign exchange student from Australia. They were married in Australia and have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. They enjoy buying and selling antiques and supporting their church along with spending time with friends. He has been involved with the utility industry for over 25 years.
Ed will have account responsibility for Michigan and Nipsco in Northern Indiana. He and his wife live in Nappanee Indiana.
Don joined Midwest Utility Sales after he retired from ABB with many years of valued service. He traveled to country with the ABB road show breaker trailer and many of you will know him. He is an Air Force veteran and received his business degree from the Air Force. He and his wife Edna live outside of Bloomington on a small farm and enjoy farming, fishing and spending time with kids and grandkids. .
Travis graduated from Johnson University in Knoxville Tennessee in 1991. He worked in several industries before finding his calling in the utility industry by starting with Power Supply Co. as East Tennessee sales representative in 2006. He has called on electric utility customers in Tennessee and southern Kentucky and currently resides north of Knoxville Tennessee. He like to coach football and make a difference in the lives of youth. He and his wife Hilary and daughter Darby plan on moving to Kentucky soon.
Travis has account responsibility for the Midwest Utility Sales LLC territory in Kentucky.
Marc joins us in 2016 as our sales engineer for the state of Ohio. Marc has over 20 years of utility sales experience with Aircraft Dynamics and American Safety Utility Corp. Marc was raised in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and has a Master’s Degree from Texas A&M. Marc and his wife Jo Ellen live near Lima Ohio. Marc enjoys flying radio control sailplanes, fishing and training and showing reining horses.
Marc’s primary responsibility will be the state of Ohio.
